Financial Health Checklist

Use this quick review to identify weak spots before they become expensive surprises.

Books and reporting

  • Bank and credit-card accounts are reconciled through the latest month
  • The balance sheet has no unexplained or negative balances
  • Profit-and-loss reports are reviewed monthly
  • Financial statements are delivered on a consistent schedule

Cash and working capital

  • Cash needs are forecast at least 8–13 weeks ahead
  • Accounts receivable aging is reviewed and overdue invoices are followed up
  • Accounts payable is scheduled without creating avoidable cash pressure
  • Owners understand why profit and cash may be different

Controls and decisions

  • Approvals and financial responsibilities are clearly assigned
  • Duplicate payments and unnecessary subscriptions are reviewed
  • Key performance indicators are tracked
  • Management can explain the three financial priorities for the next 90 days
Next step: Mark each item honestly. Items that are missing, late, unclear, or owned by no one are the first issues to address.

For general educational use. This checklist does not replace accounting, tax, legal, or investment advice specific to your organization.

Are the numbers creating more questions than answers?

Late reports, tight cash despite profit, overdue invoices, unreconciled accounts, or unexplained expenses are not small bookkeeping annoyances. They can delay decisions and quietly reduce profit.
